Alternative Visions special Exhibition Event

Tuesday 20th June 2017, 6:00 PM 8:00 PM
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery Queens Road Bristol BS8 1RL

Alternative Visions will be open for a special viewing as part of the Culture, Health and Wellbeing international conference. with a live performance of Delirium: Time and Violence by Victoria Hume, a new piece based on a series of interviews with patients, carers and staff, about delirium and its prevalence in acute care.

During this evening event there will be an opportunity to view the exhibition Alternative Visions: Undiscovered Art in the South West, which will be at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery from 3rd June - 10th September 2017, in the 'Watercolour Gallery' (2nd Floor Exhibition Gallery).

Alternative Visions is a remarkable and celebratory new exhibition, set to tour the South West of England. It provides a unique insight into a previously undiscovered group of artists and what motivates them to create art. The exhibition is developed by Arts & Health South West, Outside In and Bristol Culture, in partnership with Falmouth Art Gallery, The Wilson in Cheltenham, Poole Museum and Bristol-based Artists First.

An open call across the South West of England invited artists who identify as facing a barrier to the art world for reasons including health, disability, social circumstance or isolation to submit work for the exhibition. More than 300 submissions were received and a team of selectors chose 20 artworks for their visual interest and emotional impact. The exhibition will feature painted, drawn, printed and sculpted works, which are diverse in content, style and approach. The artists in the show represent a wider community of individuals who are driven to produce art for a broader range of reasons or purposes than many mainstream contemporary artists.
