I am Director and Senior Instructor at The Broadway Drawing School in Cardiff (https://sites.google.com/site/thebroadwaydrawingschool/home). The school was founded on a strong belief in the fundamental nature of drawing practice as the basis of all creative pursuits, and in its capacity as the basic form of visual language to act as a as vehicle for all manner cross-disciplinary communication. As a visual artist, writer, researcher and educator I consider my approach to be fundamentally interdisciplinary and twentieth century Continental philosophy along with various discourses from the fields of medicine, literature, linguistics and religion provide the conceptual framework for my personal practice. Rooted in the Medical Humanities my work constitutes a perpetually evolving and profound study of human existence, and questions how we engage with the world and with others in it. Current research activity includes a collaborative and sustained interdisciplinary study, through visual art practice and creative writing, of the existential lived experience of women s cancer. As an Honorary Research Fellow with the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board I am working on, Drawing Women's Cancer (http://drawingcancer.wordpress.com), with Dr Amanda Tristram, gynaeoncological surgeon and Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University Medical School.
With a background in HE I am also involved in the area of medical education (Imperial College London, Cardiff University Medical School, School.Swansea University College of Medicine). I teach and consult in the relation between art and medicine and pedagogical practice.
