Dance and Health is a thriving area of arts and health practice and research. High profile projects such as Dance for Parkinson’s, a global network initiated by the Mark Morris Dance company in New York, have brought this field of activity to a wide audience.
At a regional level Pavilion Dance South West is very involved in supporting dance and health through the Breathe programme. This champions the right for everyone to have dance and movement available to them as one way to support their health and happiness. The Breathe action group meets twice a year to set strategy and includes all the regional dance partners, as well as Arts for Health Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly, and Arts & Health South West.
The regional dance partners are:
Dance in Devon
Activate Performing Arts (Dorset)
Dance Up (Hampshire)
Take Art (Somerset)
Dance South Gloucestershire (email)
Creative Ecology Wiltshire
At a national level you may be familiar with People Dancing: the community foundation for dance, which has a section on Health and Wellbeing with information and resources.
We have drawn together some of the key resources on dance and health from our website and others to make them more directly accessible.
The Special Interest Group also provides a Forum for people to raise issues or suggest new resources and areas of interest.
Resources and links are grouped under these headings:
Dance for Parkinson’s
