For Arts & Health South West: March 2016
AHSW

Director's View March 2016

The AHSW Prize event is on Friday June 17th at the Arnolfini in Bristol, during Creativity and Wellbeing Week. The evening will include a celebration of inspirational arts and health work in the South West and the AHSW Prize giving ceremony, as well as wine and canapés! An Arnolfini curator will introduce Art from Elsewhere, a major touring exhibition of 39 artists from 22 countries, whose work addresses life, politics and identity in a globalized society. You can find out more here.

I hope you enjoyed the last Ebulletin and Hannah’s focus on Museums and Wellbeing. Our Outside In South West Museums project, now called
Alternative Visions: Undiscovered Arts in the South West, is getting off to a flying start in Hannah’s capable hands. You will have seen news flashes advertising for an evaluator and another encouraging organisations to sign up for the Induction Days. Please support us by circulating the information to your networks. Future Ebulletins will have a focus on areas of special interest, including one on arts and mental health, which we'll be sending out at the end of April, in time for Mental Health Awareness Week in May. If you have anything you would like us to feature in our mental health themed ebulletin, please email Hannah.

Planning for the 2017 Culture, Health and Wellbeing international conference is continuing apace. In April we will open for submissions of abstracts. Abstracts are not just for research, they are also for performances, workshops and practice presentations. We want to encourage a wide range of people to submit abstracts and we will provide you with guidance and an enquiry service. More in next month’s Ebulletin.

Some more information about the AHSW Annual Conference - November 24th and 25th 2016

For the first time our annual conference will be over two days. In 2015 several people said they would have welcomed more time to allow for in depth discussion and networking. You will be able to come for either day or both.
Everyone seemed to like Buckfast Abbey in Devon, so we have booked it again, and the Abbey has its own accommodation if you want to stay over.

Day 1 will showcase inspirational projects from across the region, including our 2016 AHSW Prize winners. We will offer our popular ‘10 minute Provocations’ once again and we’ll cover the business of the organisation at the AGM.
Day 2 will focus on learning from recent developments in commissioning and evaluation. We are very lucky to have one of the high profile Cultural Commissioning Programmes in our region and Jules Ford, from Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, will be sharing the learning from the 10 feasibility projects they have commissioned. We will consider the various models for delivering arts on prescription and social prescribing that are developing in the region and discuss the potential for joined up regional work.

We are opening for abstract submissions for this conference (and the Culture Health and Wellbeing International Conference) in April - so expect to see a newsflash and alerts on social media to tell you how and when you can submit your ideas.

We are aiming to open for registration from June, so more details will be made available (including a breakdown of all ticket prices) over the next few months.

In the meantime, do send me any information or ideas to feature in next month's ebulletin which will be themed around mental health. I'm aiming to send this out around Wednesday 27th April, so if you'd like to send me over any articles, it would be great to have them by Friday 22nd April.

Warmest wishes

Hannah
