The arts and the care of those with dementia in acute hospitals

The Arts and Dementia Care in Acute Hospitals project and digital resource aims to support staff to deliver improved dignity in care for older people with dementia when they are in acute general hospitals.

The project builds on the experience of community, residential and day care in using creative approaches to care and focuses on the use of the arts to enhance quality of life and contribute to maintaining self-confidence and self-identity, thereby helping to prevent the loss of independence often associated with a stay in an acute hospital.

Arts & Health South West (AHSW) worked with six acute hospitals in the South West to develop this digital resource through an action learning process. This digital resource provides tools and resources and an online community of practice to support the further development of the work. ... more

AHSW would be happy to hear from any hospitals that would like to find out more about the next phase of development to trial and expand the digital resource. Please contact Alex Coulter, Director of AHSW on alex@ahsw.org.uk
