Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary for disabled artists

Applications are now open for the 10th Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary (ARMB) to support mid-career disabled artists. This year’s successful recipient will receive an award of £10,000 and an accompanying three-month residency with Pallant House Gallery. Deadline 1 August 2017

Now in its tenth year, the ARMB offers this year’s successful recipient an award of £10,000 and an accompanying three-month residency with Pallant House Gallery, Chichester from 6 February to 29 April 2018.

The Bursary provides an opportunity for disabled artists to develop their ideas and practice without pressure to deliver a particular outcome such as finished or exhibition-ready work. Previous residencies have been hosted by Turner Contemporary, MargateThe V&A, LondonThe New Art Gallery, WalsallThe Bluecoat, LiverpoolBALTIC, GatesheadCamden Arts Centre, London and Spike Island, Bristol.

World-renowned sculptor Sir Antony Gormley RA comments:

Adam was inspirational as an artist and a man – seeing his disability as a strength. This bursary is the most practical and powerful way to continue doing what Adam did to make the possible palpable.

Located in the heart of historic Chichester on the south coast, Pallant House Gallery is a unique combination of a Grade One Listed Queen-Anne townhouse and an award- winning contemporary extension. It houses one of the most significant collections of Modern British art in the UK, including important works by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Lucian Freud, Walter Sickert, John Piper, Peter Blake and many more.

This year the residency is supported by the University of Chichester, which is offering studio space and access to facilities within the Fine Art department. The Fine Art department is located in a purpose-designed art building called ‘artOne’, which will provide the recipient with their own personal space within a massive open plan studio with specialist workshop areas in Textiles, Sculpture, Printmaking and Woodwork. Pallant House Gallery is also offering access to its library and archives.

The residency will also include developing and delivering public-facing activities with Pallant House Gallery and Shape, and showing work as part of the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary Shortlist exhibition.
